[ shuichi is the brave soul to contact maki and be the first to appear in her inbox. that deserves some sort of praise, right? right. anyway, it's been about a while since that incident happened and shuichi figures that he should probably check up on her to make sure that everything is... all right. he's still kind of nervous about approaching her but they should definitely stick together. ]

[ Praise-worthy, indeed. Especially since Maki does not endeavor to make herself more approachable basically at all. Maybe that's the next thing she ought to work on, especially when it comes to Shuichi, who deserves some patience and kindness as much as anybody.

So yeah. It's nice to get a message from him, and she answer back in a fairly timely fashion. ]

[ it's vague but it's probably enough. shuichi still has a lot to learn about her and who she "really is" (based on what she told him before) but he thinks she's telling the truth... maybe... ]

I've been all right.

[ he supposes that's about correct. he's still trying to adjust to this strange new life and world, get used to everything around him. that one month of the attack and the natives turning against some of them didn't really help but he thinks he's settling in. however, there's definitely still something on his mind and after a little pause, he speaks again. ]

[ She is telling the truth, but it sort of begs the question: if she was feeling terrible instead, would she admit it to him? Maybe not. Lying to Shuichi isn't appetizing, but she doesn't want him worrying about her, either. The guy has enough on his plate.

[ there's a lengthy silence on shuichi's end as he... deals with this feeling of frustration. he's glad that this isn't a video transmission because then she'd have to see him dealing with this frustration but unfortunately, he forgets to control his thoughts and they make it through the audio. he still really needs to learn to adjust to this mind telepathy thing. ]

[ She certainly doesn't fault him for being frustrated. Maki attempts to respond with a tone that hopefully comes off as at least slightly understanding. It's not her strong suit, obviously. ]

That's vague, though. If it's really bothering you, then you should start by focusing on a certain goal, or a specific way that you want to get stronger.

[ She isn't about to mention the nightly workout routine that Kaito came up with, since she knows he wouldn't remember it. But she figures Kaito would be proud of Shuichi, if he was here, and it gives her a warm feeling. ]

[ now that's something shuichi wasn't expecting. it's not that he doesn't think that maki isn't nice or anything, it's just that... she always seemed like the type of person to keep to herself, especially with how she often went "i don't want to talk to you [WALKS AWAY]"... ]

[ Honestly, she wasn't nice then – and still isn't, particularly. At least that's how she feels, and she's also aware enough about herself to understand why he's surprised. After all, even after spending a few months endeavoring to be more social, at the end of the day, it would still be easier for her to revert back to her old ways, ignoring everybody and staying aloof. But that's not what she wants. ]
